More failed HAMP modifications could enter HAFA after falling into delinquency after the conversion into permanent status.

The HAMP program give sellers and/or owner an opporutunity to sell the home regardless if their upside down on their mortgage. This means if you owe the bank more that what home is worth today, you might be able to sell your home and walkaway without ever having to worry about the bank coming after you for the difference. More, you credit will only get a minor hit and within 2 years after selling your home, Fannie Mae or Freddy Mac will by your loan in the market.
